Earlier this year, UCL School of Management alumni and brothers Udit and Suchet Singhal launched a new award designed for exceptional undergraduate students at the School and we are delighted to announce that Programme Directors Andrew Whiter and Maya Cara have selected the first winners of the awards: Jocelyn Chen from the BSc Management Science programme and Molly Casey from our BSc Information Management for Business programme.
Jocelyn Chen has been selected as the first BSc Management Science student to receive the Singhal Award, which celebrates an all-round outstanding student in respect of both their academic performance and their wider impact on the programme, UCL, enterprise or society. Jocelyn has just graduated with First Class Honours, taking the option of a Year in Industry with Samsung.
Her final year dissertation, on a Samsung-related problem, was, in the words of the markers, outstanding. The solutions presented were entrepreneurial, creative and rigorous, demonstrating an exceptional understanding of the complexities of business decision making. Jocelyn’s many valued contributions include being President of UCL’s FinTech Society, and a Management Science Student Representative.
Molly Casey is the first BSc Information Management for Business student to receive the Singhal Award, which honours exceptional academic performance and significant contributions to the programme, UCL, enterprise, and society. Graduating with First Class Honours, Molly’s final year enterprise project won the Best Enterprise Project award for its entrepreneurial and rigorous solutions.
In her first year, Molly’s team won the Code Red Hackathon in the Engineering Department, focusing on performance activism. She also played a key role in organising a Sustainable Finance Panel with the Sustainability Lab and served as President of the UCLe Society in her final year. During her second year, Molly’s group won the Most Viable Solution award for a partnership proposal between Waitrose and MyFitnessPal aimed at reducing food waste. She has also supported many other SDG-focused projects, such as a safety app for female commuters in India and an Indonesian skincare line. Currently, Molly’s start-up, PolicyPlus+, has been accepted into UCL’s Incubator Programme, The Hatchery.
In recognition of their award, both Jocelyn and Molly will receive a handcrafted magnum of Champagne Challiol & Charmetant courtesy of the Singhal family.
